If the general public is fed lies to save itself, the ethical question is obvious: is it possible to generate a lie so comprehensively criminal that we begin to question if we are worth saving? However, in this world, I understand that misinformation is sometimes acceptable if it serves to protect vital American interests. The moon-landing show probably prevented a very tense period in the US-Russian cold war from getting disastrously worse.
I’m not the only one who thinks this way. Too bad, because I’m just a powerless nobody. There are some people in America who also see misinformation as occasionally justifiable, but these folks have great power and influence. Scary, creepy, spooky power and influence. Shut-up-or-disappear power and influence.
The powerless nobodies have blogs and the suggestive voice. Eloquent orators can deliver the strongest dissenting opinion. Big, strong, righteous opinions. See, hear, and think opinions. Stand-up-and-be-heard opinions.
I don’t believe man landed on the moon. The science doesn’t always work.
Nor do I believe everyone understands the truth about 911. The science doesn’t always work there either. There are valid questions that remain unanswered and were not even considered in the official investigation. I’m not presuming to know what happened, I’m with those who seek to answer fully the questions of the victims’ families. This catastrophe merits that. The victims’ families deserve that. I want us to be worth saving.
We the American people are bound to be vigilant in our search for the truth, but patriotism and divine intervention are powerful political tools, as the most powerful members of the current US government already know.
